[360/PS3] Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 --- £24.97 (Be Quick!)

Gamestation have just started doing a "Trade 2 Games Off The List & Get Modern Warfare 2 for £4.99

Cheapest game on the list is Overlord 2.

£9.99 PS3 @ Play.com
£10.00 Xbox @ Play.com

2x £9.99 + £4.99 = £24.97

But you have to get the games and get in there quick - as the preorders will fill up - and they may amend the offer at anytime (I assume when they find out that Overlord 2 is so ruddy cheap!)

Just trying to work out how it will go down.

Do you think you put your name down for the (FREE) preorder. Then on the day when it comes out (or Midnight release) you take the 2 games and the £4.99 down?

Or do you think they will allow you to walk in now, trade it all in and do a “Paid Off” Pre-Order?

Hmm… Not sure.

I reckon by the 10th November, the price for Overlord may have dropped even more!

Plain awesome if all goes to plan, but like you said time is of the essence - so is it worth buying the games from Play? Also, do you think they'd be ok with the same game being traded twice?

They didn't state different ganes... Also if they question it, I'm telling them I'm going "half-ins" with a mate as we both had Overlord 2 which were not playing Very Happy

Could be lucrative.

However... I was thinking this was going to be an Internet phenomenon when I posted it. Denied Sad LoL

I asked the guy in GS today and he said given the high levels of pre-orders they wouldn't be doing this (trade-ins) on midnight release, he did state that you can at any date prior to launch and after, trade in the games and pay the £4.99 and then pick up on midnight release (apparently £44.99 will be on your trading card to pay for the game) or you could trade in the games and then pay the £4.99 at midnight release.

This thread has got me thinking now, I would imagine the trade-in price of Overlord 2 is £10 or less at Gamestation so to get the £40 worth of trade-in credit needed you have to mention the 'offer' and perhaps put your name down on the pre-order list? But what happens if you don't bother collecting your pre-order? I imagine that would still be £40 worth of credit for £20 outlay?

Called another 2 different stores, mixed responses;

1. Not allowed to trade in 2 copies of the same title on one format
2. Not allowed to trade in 2 copies of the same title on 2 separate formats
3. Trade-ins can only be done on the midnight launch or thereafter until 19 November (and not before) as that is when their tills ‘go live’ with the ‘offer’
4. Any of the games on the list can be pulled at any time if the manager of the store thinks they are getting too many copies of any title

Was also told by one manager that they had cottoned on to this deal from Play via another well known bargain forum and were in the process of informing all the other GS managers in/around the area to be aware and leave it up to them to decide whether they want to be deluged with copies of Overlord 2 or whether they’ll accept the trade-ins. Just a warning for all the London peeps. Apparently on the other forum, the Huddersfield branch has already pulled the game from the list.

Considering that my local GS over the weekend told me that pre-orders had shot up to over 900, I highly doubt that even if 20% of the people queuing up were going to go for this offer, that after say the first 10 people, I don’t think they’d allow 360 copies of Overlord 2 to be traded-in, do you?

So my advice would be to call your local store and ASK them what is what. And I read the thread on that other forum, one person on there said that if the manager refuses to trade-in the games to call their head office (the 0845 number) and they will tell them to trade-in the titles, this is BS because in the T&C’s at the bottom of this leaflet it specifies that the trade-ins are subject to the manager’s discretion. GS Head Office cannot override a local GS manager’s decision if they refuse to accept the trade-ins so don’t believe the hype. Good luck to anyone who manages to bag the game with the trade-ins.

I cant get my head round that... Because you cant pay for preorders (I still dont understand why!?) But because of this, they credit the game value to your card?

This could be VERY lucrative if thats the case.

I sense an impending telephone call to my local GS.

£25 spend for £45 credit... Its not massive as some of the more lucrative above deals have been... But its definatley a shorter route. And it still puts things like £225 PSP GO on the boat for £125 Very Happy

Thats got "Crazy-Ass-Profit" written all over it - as I bet you could get a queue round the block on eBay knocking them out for £189 a go!

Perhaps you could have kept it within Rpoints by posting in the VIP forum, lol? Wink

The time of the first post in the other forum appears to be yesterday lunchtime so it looks like you beat them to it by 2 days, unless there's yet another forum where it was posted earlier. Anyway, he wrote that he already did the trade-in, so maybe it's worth a try now if anyone has titles they want to offload?

The problem is Silhouette, the mixed messages. The guy I spoke to yesterday (at local GS to hometown) he said that I could trade-in the games now, and considering GS are selling MW2 for £44.99, logic dictates less £4.99 means the two copies of whatever you are trading in should equate £40. He said that I could trade in the titles and the credit be kept on my trade-in card and then pay the £5 on day of release. I assume that;

a) He would recognise my face and/or remember that I did the trade-in ‘offer’ and accept my fiver for MW2

b) I would have to take in receipt stating that I had gone for the ‘offer’ and the money was credited to my trade-in card and then just pay the fiver

c) He perhaps was misguided/didn’t check with the manager and if I tried to do the offer now, could possibly be told to come back on day of launch.

Since I don’t have the games to hand, I can’t test out the theory. No two Gamestations are the same and it seems for the most part that the London stores, those managers are the ones that are very switched on so to speak and read/know all about the forums with deals on games and how to exploit them to your advantage etc. Sad

A) Cant post it in the VIP forum, otherwise my ‘subscriber list’ would be about 3 people Sad

B) Not sure what forum you are talking about, but I thought most forums (MSE and us etc) always credited other people Sad Could have genuinely just seen the deal, but I still say Credit where Credits due

C) I'm going to wing it and go for it. For the sake of £20 on PayDay, it’s the sort of money you forget about – so ill get the games, take them down and see what my local says.

I can only assume that they would take the games and the £4.99 now and just sign on the sheet its paid for.

One way they said I could pay for games is to buy Gift Cards now (with my store credit) and use them to buy the games. I.e. I want MW2, so I “buy” £45 gift cards – but I don’t get given the cards. They mark this down on the sheet – so when I come to pay – they give me the game and click the “redeem gift card” button. Maybe its something like that.

I know for a fact that Overlord 2 DOESN’T trade for £20 – so how they are deeming 2 of them to be worth £40 not sure.

But I agree there must be an EPOS button that goes “live” on the date – and this button will allow 2 trade copies of X games and a payment of £4.99 to trigger £44.99 credit which MUST be used to redeem MW2.

Its complicated, but they are the ones who have floated this lucrative deal out there Very Happy
