It's all nonsense from the board.
The bottom line is that no institution can cope with a mortgage rate of 2.5% for most of its borrowers.
PIBs rates over the last year have reflected this corporate reality.
You could have made 25% capital gain with Britannia/Co-op as well as a 10% yield.
Nationwide's PIBs have fallen in spite of a much lower yield.
They are stuck in a mire and I can't see an immediate way out. |

How much damage has taking on the dregs of the BS movement cost them? Portman, Cheshire, Derbyshire, Dunfermline etc.

They neglect to mention that the esavings plus a/c (max 3 withdrawls) pays 2% instant access.
Nationwides rates may not be chart topping but they are reasonably competitive. The extreme dislocation in the savings market is down to reckless inflation stoking central bank policy.
I,m happy to stick with an institution that doesn't ram the product of the day down my throat irrespective of suitability every time I pay in a cheque |

Or, rather, they would have done, had they not:
(1) extended the daft BBR+2% guarantee to Cheshire and Derbyshire members for no reason; and
(2) decided to perpetuate the various trading names rather than consolidate under the Nationwide name. |
