    The Traditional "Who's Next?" Thread

In this Mail article on the Holmesdale ( http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/i...lls-brink.html ) apparently the original heading mentioned one society, Holmesdale, going and another "on the brink."

So who do we reckon will be next?

If I were the betting type my money would be on the long troubled Manchester.

My DREAM would be the parochial Swansea going. They never let me in. They don't deserve to survive.

Apologies. The Thread title should be "The Traditional "Who's Next?" Thread" but the website locked up and then posted anyway before I had it correct. This site is giving me grief.

Maybe if Jeff's paper had followed up my emails about their director they wouldn't be in suck a situation, who knows.

Clearly Manchester BS is in trouble. But if even one that makes ?1.5m is giving up, any could go.

Looks certain to be the Manchester as they seem to be in big trouble. Swansea is also the only one I haven't got - I tried a speculative application many years ago but it got returned along with the cheque

I got the usual stuff from the Scottish Building Society. In the booklet they sent was the answer to the question of whether they were planning any mergers or takeovers. They say:

'Your board confirms that there have been no other approaches from any building society or other financial institution regarding a merger or takeover.'

The reference to 'no other' relates to the previous takeover by the Scottish of the much smaller Century Building Society back in 2013.

Eternally optimistic I wonder about the exact language used. They say there have been no approaches from others. But does that mean Scottish have made approaches themselves?
