West Bromwich use defamation law to silence Which.

West Bromwich tried to silence Which magazine from warning customers of a £50,000 account that put them over the FSA guidelines on financial safety.

How is this in the members interests?

    See this report:-

    carpet muncher,

Not a story I was previously aware of. Another eye opener about the "caring, we're different" mutuals. Thank you for highlighting it.

Interesting to note that Robert Sharpe (ex-Portman building society) was in charge of West Brom around this time. When it comes to threatening people for litigation, he has form - www .standard.co.uk/news/portman-onslaught-toxic-and-terrifying-6961005.html

Annual results came through my letterbox today, awful. Truly awful. Losses this year over £9million. Follows on from losses the previous year if £10million. Mortgage balances fell by around 10%, share balances down, total assets down.

But, keep on taking the "Performance Related Pay" won't you, Executives You deserve it with such great results. How could a society run without such talent, offering such consistently poor results. Lmao.

Yes I remember the Ron Sharp debackle at Portman. Why doesn't the press get hold of these stories? I only found this out as a footnote to another news story.

Been looking at the AGM bumph and as usual the renumeration report with some eye watering figures. When Sharpe arrived at the West Brom it appears that the salaries went skyward .. his last full year gave him £711,000 and his deputy (now Chief executive) also joined the high fliers with £423,000 in the same year. Westhoff has now moved to £488,000 which is an astounding amount of money. The non-execs are also doing very nicely whilst the Chairman receives £100,000 .. cloud cuckoo land springs to mind.
Also in the accounts but no real meat on the subject is the new 'Head Office' .. one has to ask .. Can the society afford this? and is the future for the West Brom so rosy as to imagine that it will survive bearing in mind why Sharpe came in the first place. Needless to say my vote was against the excess. There is an option on the AGM back page to ask a question at the AGM and of course receive a considered response .. I am sure that they have already been rehershing the answer concerning their excessive salaries and how they deserve it , going rate for the job, blah, blah, blah.
