    2.5% and then 2.9% for 24 months is steep when you can get 1.7% and 0% for 12 months

    It should be "OR" not "and"

    That should be 0% for 12 months OR 2.9% on balance transfers for 2 years. If you do both, you will end up paying 15.9% on your purchases in year 2, until you pay off the balance transfer.

    Also, don't forget the 2.5% fee, and deals like 2.9% are actually something like 2.95% rounded down.
