Right im taking the plunge tonight, and heading down to play some IRL poker.

Its beginners night at a card room in London, £5 PLHE unlimited rebuy tournie...

Its quite nerve racking thinking about doing it for real, as I could look like a prize guppy

Anyway, Ill let you know some more info when I get home...

Good luck JR, the one tip I can recommend is to practice your shuffling and maybe play out pretend hands beforehand - it may be self dealt (though the newbies will probably be more forgiving than the old-timers I had 1st time.

Well from an 2030 start I found myself still in @ 0130 this morning, and sitting on the final table

The tournament was 500chips for £5 so you start very short stacked when the blinds were 25/25 to begin.

Right before rebuy hour finished I managed to draw 99, and hit a 9 on the flop, hurrah, go all in, get called guy has trips J, boo, final 9 comes on the river, hurrah.

The tables were mostly self deal although there were 2 dealer tables to begin, every1 seemed friendly enough.

It certainly adds a dimension to the game, adds a sense of realism to the slider bar for how many chips you wanna bet.

All in all, a fun night evening though im dead beat this morning. Hopefully go down again, maybe next week.

Overall finish of 5th for £54, went all in on a semi steal JQs, got hit by AQ, oh well.

The website of the place is www.gutshot.co.uk although it seems borked atm, should have my name up in lights on the webbie soon.

    Good work JR

Well done for having the guts to head along by yourself ... maybe a few of you who live somewhat locally, might all try heading along togeather sometimes ? .... sadly, as I'm in Dublin, it's tricky for me to get there I'm afraid

BTW - did you happen to refer any of the other newbies to this website JR ?

G> I know Dublin's laws are a bit strict (no casinos is a bit of a non-starter for poker players) but isn't there the Merrion Club? Though if the area around Merrion Square is anything to go by, I think it's a fair bet it would cost you €€€€€€'s in entrance fee....

    Hi Martin

Dare I ask how you've got such good knowledge about Dublin ?

Yes, your correct - there is the Merrion Club, along with Club 78 & one or two other casinos in Dublin ... all "members" clubs, though never bothered checking what the cost of membership actually is (only been in one of them, once, while under the influence with a m8)

Welllll, I used to manage a bookies in probably the only working-class area in the whole of the Southside, so I know the gambling laws fairly well, the 'no fruities' law saved me an absolute packet - I was pumping loads of dough into them at the time - though making it back here with interest
