I got a nice external HD dock from Maplins just recently for a SATA drive. Had a problem instlling the drive (but my superior IT skills prevailed) and it is now perfect. recommended for extra storage especially as I have about 1000 videos that I will one day get around to watching.

Yep, offer now over, sorry. Amazon's stock is no more, at least for the mo, so listing cheapest 3rd party seller. The Buffalo 1TB is worth considering at 79.02 (was 79.99 before VAT cut, so price has risen or GCSE maths boy has struck again!), but only if you're prepared to wait 1-2 months for delivery! Bare drives can be had cheaper, if you fancy Dogbasket's preference for a SATA dock and you reckon you'll need more than one SATA drive, to offset the dock cost!

As for Amazon and the VAT cut, seen a couple of things that are now more expensive, probably 'cos out of stock. They must have had a busy weekend

Sorry, wasn't trying to steal your message. Was trying to point out the vaule of extra storage capacity.

I now have 2 external SATAs which are getting filled quite nicely. After having countless data losses in the past I am committed to keeping my future data secure.

I remember reading about a professional photographer who made 12 copies of everything. For me, that is excessive but the principle is sound. I also have an external enclosed drive like the one above and it is as sweet as a nut.

You made a good point, which I appreciated, so no offence taken This offer was good while it lasted, as it was cheaper than any bare 1TB drive I could find. However, the SATA dock is seriously worth considering for reasons you mention, especially when you read reviews of external hard drives, that mention crashes permanently losing backup data. Better to be paranoid than sorry
