    Sky HD box - £199 @ Tesco

    Brand Sky
    Colour Black
    Remote Control Yes
    Series Link Yes

Great idea if you just want to replace your Sky+ box using the installation you already have. Also, you don't have to subscribe to Sky or the HD mix (which costs £10pm for at least a year) if you don't want to.

Why would you buy a Sky HD box and not want HD programmes???? Surely the £10 a month fee is compulsory if you want Sky HD programmes too watch,,,Or am I missing something????

You get BBC HD and Luxe HD free without a viewing card and C4 HD on top of you do have a card. But you don't need a subscription to watch these channels.

sorry if this is repeating posts elsewhere, but I guess if you don't have Sky already, but want HD then freesat via (for e.g.) Humax Foxsat HDR is a better choice?
Are there any differences in channel availability?
I know freesat loose 'Fiver' compared to freeview

With SkyHD you would get Sky3, Setanta Sports News, Fiver and FiveUS which are not available on Freesat

Also, and maybe useful to rpointers, if you now pay Sky for HD, at the end of the contract, assuming you stop paying, what are you left with?
Do you get any subscription free Sky HD channels?
I guess for the tesco offer to be useful you must

As I understand it there is no contract involved with buying this box from Tesco but there is so little information on the site I can't be sure!

The only subscription free HD channels are BBC HD, C4 HD and Luxe HD

Just to clarify... I have a Sky+ box at the moment and a Sky subscription. Can I buy this box; use it to replace my existing Sky+ box and then have the same functions of my existing Sky+ box plus have some of the free HD channels?

Yes. You just unscrew the cables from your Sky+ box, attach them to your HD box and then telephone them to pair the viewing card with the new box. As you have not purchased it from Sky you are not obligated to pay the £10pm fee for the HD mix which gives you Sky1, Bio, Discovery, NatGeo etc.
