    If you're willing to invest a little more to get a lot back then I just saw this in our local Tesco store for £199.99 with the same discs included and on a 1000 additional point offer...

    If my maths is right I believe that would be 1000+199=1199, so if you're a Clubcard holder who maxes out on deals that is worth £47.96 - making the player effectively cost £152.03 just for picking it up whilst doing your grocery shop

    PS Possibly worth amending the topic title to highlight this option too?

    Currently only £119.99, in stock at time of writing! The Co-op's stock soon went, so I wouldn't waste time on this offer!

    Wow bargain. Ordered one. Top banana as an upscaling DVD player too.

    I cant see anyone buying the PS3 for movies - Blutamax has region restrictions that you cant overcome - no one with half a brain cell is going to touch it. Besides - you can get the better graphics of the Xbox 360 AND an HD DVD player for less...

    A nice thread on AV Forums about the upscaling capabilities of the EP30 and EP35: http://www.avforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=636017

    Man, I'm close to buying this purely as an upscaling DVD player...

    There is going to be a price war on HD DVD versus Blu Ray players.

    No one with half a brain cell could add up the cost of the xbox 360 and it's HD DVD player and say that it is cheaper than a PS3:

    Amazon price of PS3 with Blu-Ray capability: £279
    Amazon price of Xbox360 + HD DVD Player: £330

    Plus if you got the HD DVD Player you would be buying into a dying format:
    [img=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:HighDefShare6.svg]

    Since you mentioned graphics, having played the two systems side-by-side (as an un-biased consumer, I was considering which I would buy) on two HD tellys in John Lewis, I was blown away by the PS3's graphics and underwhelmed by the Xbox360, which was very dark and I could see the whiteness where two textures didn't meet up, in multiple games.

    I would also like to point out that online play on the ps3 is free, while the xbox360's isn't. Massive bonus.

    Back to this player though, upscaling is neat, but Blu-ray will win. Plus richto, I know who will touch a format with region restrictions. Movie studios. It is a massive bonus for them, it is there for a reason. You buy your films in the UK on Blu-Ray and watch them on PAL systems only, or you buy an HD disc anywhere in the world and watch it anywhere in the world. The difference will be in what is available on Blu-Ray compared to HD DVD. Studios will, and are plumping for blu-ray for the very reason you stated that consumers wouldn't touch it. This war is led by the studios.
