how long to wait for payment/contact?

ive had one auction which finished 9 days ago.
sent payment details within a couple of hours of the auction ending, but no messages received, no payment from the winner of the auction.

Don't think its any good waiting on this. Is there a second bidder you can go to? Otherwise put it back on sale.

I dont send an invoice out that early, cause ebay send out too many emails at once ("your watched item is ending soon" "youve bid on xxxxx" youve won xxxxx" "pay for xxxxxx", and its likely to get ignored + you can only seem to send one invoice on ebay. So i wait at least a day or three, then remind them - not that it helps!

Do an Unpaid Item thingy to make sure you get your FVF back.

Yes and no they will receive a strike if you go through the NPB route, but it has no real effect on the buyer's status unless they are serial NPB's.

Best just to recover your FVF and try forget about it,

the buyer made contact, saying he has sent me "emails" and that he's confused as to why i havent replied
he says he wants to collect, even though he's based in the south east and the item is in birmingham

I usually assume lack of payment or contact is an oversight rather than anything more. The first step in the NPB process is a reminder. I usually do this afteer 5-7 days and this nearly always results in payment quite quickly.

Could be any number of reasons why you didn't get your buyer's emails. Apologise for not responding, recommend that he use eBay messaging (a bit inconvenient but useful in case of disputes).

As for location - possibly he travels to Brum or has someone who can collect for him.
Save on hayfever medication at Chemist Direct. Much cheaper than Boots, Tesco, Asda.
