The whole issue of Moderation really needs addressing.
Rightly or wrongly there was a lot of tension between Mods and some long time members some actually quit Rpoints over allegations of double standards and more serious claims
At threw moment only 2 mods are postin Chadwick and Sarah@:
Chadwick posted Here that he wasn’t bothered though either way though he might well have change his mind and Sarah@ never posted at all either way
Though her name has changed from Sarah@Rpoints.
I feel that a new start will be best achieve by standin down all the mods and letting them re apply if they want to.
Probably some V capable people out there who would give it a go
Probably best too look for posters with a real feel for the forums who will apply the spirit of the law rather than the letter
Maybe put a post in the VIP forum, probably not too many peoples left there now since they suspended cashbac
Try and get posters who are Immortals.
With the current amout of posts being at single figures a day then I would think 3 mods would be plenty
Course if you get bac to the peak or 2007 of 500+ posts a day you will need more
    Just me personal Opinion

Has the VIP forum disappeeared or I have ceased to be a VIP? If the latter, then I demand re-instatement!

It's still there. You're just an A N Other now!

Perhaps the new owners can ensure that all Immortal posters are automatically VIPs.

I like the ring-fencing idea. Gives confidence in the site.

I also like parchedpea's idea of giving bonuses to loyal/high spenders (see http://www.rpoints.com/forum/viewtop...416206#1416206 in this thread).

Rpoints grew from somewhat different roots amongst the building society windfall and casino bonus chasers, but ignoring those elements (they've both died off anyway now), it had two key strengths as a cashback site.

Firstly, the Highest Cashback Promise meant that it was usually possible to get the best cashback rate. This is a key issue. There is a lot of competition now and users will pick the best site for the sake of an extra 1/2 a percent. So NewRpoints needs to be competitive on this front. As parchedpea proposes, there are ways to do this without always hitting the bottom line profits. Loyalty bonuses in some form may pay for themselves out of increased turnover, or reduced admin costs (eg. the "high-roller" cashout bonus).

Secondly, the forums at Rpoints were well respected as a source of information, discussion and assistance. They were generally seen as better than MSE, which is full of newbies asking the same questions over and over again. (Whatever the truth of the matter, that was the perception). As others have noted above, investing in the forums will generate interest and community, and a reason for visiting the site other than purely for financial gain. At their height, the forums generated a real community spirit, and brand loyalty.

It will be important -in the short term at least, while you need to attract new custom - to establish some USPs. There are other sites combining voucher codes with cashback, so this isn't really a unique idea. However, it will make Rpoints more of a one-stop shop. Better still, would be to have some unique codes or offers, even if these have to come out of your pocket. The idea of earning points through high street retail would also be a strong selling point. I imagine that's a longer term concept as there must be a lot of setup involved. (Maybe an Rpoints branded credit card?)

@SnakePlissken - this is what we are working on at the moment. To relaunch the site with as many good features as possible and keep building on it. Re your status, we will definitely consider this. We just need a bit more time to understand the statuses better.

@rudekev: Suggestions thankfully noted. As you say, current levels of posts mean that there is no rush to recruit new mods.

    Moderators and statuses

We want to start of with a clean slate in terms of politics of who did what on the forums. All I can assure is that we will be fair, not judgemental and everyone's contributions from now on will be recognised based on its own merits - not previous events.

On the other hand, we do want to keep discussions positive and helpful. We have a relaunch to work to, which I want to focus our energy on.

Re statuses like immortal/VIP etc, this will all be reviewed after the relaunch. Since we are looking at upgrading forum software, there will be more options.

Once again, we are very grateful for your feedback and support - please keep the suggestions coming

I always found the Voucher Table very useful and was also happy to regularly contribute to it as well.

I think it would be good to get it reinstated (or replaced with something even better).

Good idea. We will look into it. Where can I find an old one?
