Rep Power and Reputation Points

A Rep fest is unlikely though. People need to genuinely build up their reputation.

A cynic might say that there is the implicit idea that an individual should Rep in response to the person who Rep'ed them first.

What's with all these activity bars then? Hopefully the explanantion will be simpler than the reputations.

As far as giving reputations is concerned, could we not use the ratings system as before(calling them reputations) of two per day per poster. Otherwise good posts cannot be rated because we have to give other people reputations before we can reward the same person. The old system worked perfectly well I felt until the 'scramble for immortality' at the death of the previous company.

@mel - Reputation system is much more flexible and highly configurable.

Good point re offering reputations to same user (without giving reps for other people before giving it to the same user). I've now changed it following your post, so you CAN give rep to same user again. However, if we find people misusing it, we need to rethink.

Re Activity bars/trophies/points/awards etc: These are things we are testing - so don't worry about them for now. They might just appear and disappear temporarily. Once we decide what we are keeping, I will post full announcement on how it will all work - we will keep it as simple as we can.

Janine, could you explain the difference between Reputation and Liking a post. What effect do they each have?

I maybe wrong, it has happen, but accordin to Janine explantion i don't think Likin a post effect Rep but i maybe wrong

Kev is right. Likes don't affect Reputation in any way. These 2 are independent metrics.
