One quick word of warning; Similar Dell offers that I've posted recently where you add a few upgrades to get the £60 discount have been adjusted or pulled by Dell fairly quickly, so if you like what you see then probably best to act sooner rather than later. _________________ Great Desktop & Notebook Offers From DELL |

You would need to upgrade the graphics card for gaming, something like an ATI 3850 would be OK. The 256MB version can currently be had for around £70 from a third party supplier.
An example here: http://www.rpoints.com/bb/viewtopic.php?p=1226618 |
Specs for this seem really good; if a top-end GFX was introduced, would this turn into a Crysis capable machine or are there compromises elsewhere? _________________ [X360] BIOSHOCK: £11.99!

If you wanted to go with a "top-end" card to play something like Crysis then you would need to upgrade the PSU, although some state on other sites that the Vostro 400 should work with the standard PSU and a high end card it's not something that I would recommend.
NOTE: Dell actually offer the 8800GT as an upgrade with this system but they also upgrade the PSU. _________________ Great Desktop & Notebook Offers From DELL |

Hi _ST_
Which PSU would you recommend for a game like Crysis? Dell are doing some configurations with the Quad 6600, which look tempting. Would Vista cope with with the newer games or would XP pro be better? Is there any flavour of Vista you would recommend, for example, the Ultimate over Business edition?
Sorry to bombard you with so many questions!
Thanks in advance. |

Hi micklemas,
The PSU needs to be able to give enough power to supply all the components within the PC at any given time including when playing demanding games like Crysis. I wouldn't recommend any one unit but would add that a budget of around £50 should be set aside for a quality supply. Popular manufacturers include Hiper, Enermax and Antec but there are many more including Seasonic who are known to produce a range of very quiet units, there's also many useful reviews via Google if your not sure.

Call me 'old school' but for the time being I'm sticking with XP Pro for all my computing. I'm sure Vista will bloom at some point in the future leaving XP for dead but for me I'm hearing too many negatives to use this newer OS.

As above, I wouldn't recommend any flavour of Vista over XP Pro, so no. Others may have a different view and are welcome to comment but you asked for my opinion and this is it. _________________ Great Desktop & Notebook Offers From DELL |

This system now has the higher spec 2.4GHz E4600 CPU supplied as standard, price remains the same at just £317 delivered.

Really struggling to decide between this and the Quad core D044019.
This is about the same price when you allow for the 22" screen, but has only 250GB HD.
Also some good deals seem to appear at Outlet.
Too many options = I can't decide.
I use the computer all day with multiple apps running and need to edit video, but not gaming. Any advice appreciated.
Regards

Same here. Need a new work PC as my old dog is struggling to open more than one app at a time. I use Corel Draw, Photoshop and Illustrator a fair bit and often have multiple apps doing stuff. Nothing major needed i guess, but a comp that could do everything with ease would be good. No games are played which keeps the cost down I guess.
I'd also like to consider a good poker playing monitor (22"+) so I can swap it for my 19" at home _________________ Trying Hard.......... |

| This is probably a shot in the dark, but does anyone know if one of the HDDs could be removed to put in a NAS device? Or will the machine come already configured with windows installed and not like it if you start taking things out? Thankyou. |

| As long as it's not been configured as a RAID array you'll be fine. Even if it has, you'll probably only need to tweak a few BIOS options and reinstall Windows. |
