seems a suprisingly good price for pc world
very handy if you dont want to leave a pc on 24/7 as a server and probably quite a bit cheaper on the leccy bill
oddly cant seem to get 1TB internal drives much cheaper...normally external with ethernet should be £30-40 more than just the internal drive |

Does this automatically share things via SMB shares or do you have to install some WD software?
So could I stream media to another PC / Xbox?
Cheers |

You don't need to install the WD software.
See this site for loads of info on it

I use mine for watching videos on the xbox (XBMC) windows PCs can see the shares no problem. Just type \\mybookworld in explorer
Dead easy to setup. Just don't install the WD crapware, connect it up, and go to http://mybookworld in your browser. You'll get the admin page. |

Only problem is that it's very slow (7mb/sec) even though it has a gigabit connection.
Otherwise it's great, and can also be used as an NFS server:

| Yeah, I've noticed it is quite slow compared to a usb drive. However, I've had 3 standard xvid files playing off it at the same time with no problems. |
